How to redeem an App Store promo code on iPhone

Apple actually has two different mechanisms that people lump together as "promo codes" — a classic promo code you type in manually, and an offer code that redeems through a link. They look similar from the outside but the redemption flow is different, which is the most common reason someone gets stuck.

Redeeming a classic promo code

1. Open the App Store app on your iPhone or iPad (not a browser).
2. Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.
3. Tap "Redeem Gift Card or Code."
4. Choose "Enter Code Manually" and type in the code exactly as given — it's case-sensitive.

You'll need to be signed in with the Apple ID you want the app on, and that Apple ID has to match the storefront/country the code was generated for.

Redeeming an offer code

Offer codes don't need manual entry at all. Tapping the link takes you straight to the app's install/redeem screen with the offer already applied — you just confirm and it installs. Do you need to enter payment details?

No. That's the entire point of a genuine Apple promo or offer code — it authorizes a $0 transaction through Apple's own system. If a "redeem" flow for a free code asks you to enter a card number anywhere outside the official App Store app, stop — that's not how Apple's redemption system works.
